Autoimmunity and malignancy

چکیده

Recent papers published had suggested the association of malignancy with autoimmune disease. Numerous autoimmune phenomena have been reported in cancer patients. There is a bidirectional relationship between autoimmunity and malignancy. Patients with autoimmune conditions develop neoplastic diseases and, analogously, various autoantibodies have been detected in the sera of patients with hematological and epithelial malignancies. A wide variety of cancer types have been associated with the autoimmune disorders, which raises a question about immune reactions to the tumor as a cause of the autoimmune disorder. It was suggested that the generation of autoantibodies in malignant conditions is an aspect of immune deficiency or an immune response against proteins which are involved in proliferative functions. The intent of this paper is not to provide a comprehensive review of autoimmunity and malignancy but rather to illustrate the relationship between autoimmunity and malignancy.

Malignancy in Relation to Autoimmune Blistering Dermatoses: Molecular and Clinical Aspects

Autoimmune blistering dermatoses (ABD) are a group of relatively rare autoantibody-driven diseases affecting primarily skin and/or multiple mucosa. They comprise of two main subdi‐ visions: ABD with autoimmunity to enzymes (dermatitis herpetiformis only) and ABD with autoimmunity to mostly structural proteins (anti-desmosomal autoimmunity circle, antidermal-epidermal junction autoimmunity circl...

Chromosomal abnormalities in spleens of New Zealand black mice, a strain characterized by autoimmunity and malignancy.

Mosaicism of normal and chromosomally aberrant cells was detected in 14 of 20 spleens from adult New Zealand Black (NZB) mice reared under conventional conditions, a strain that spontaneously develops autoimmunity and lymphoreticular malignancy. No abnormalities were found in marrows from these same animals or in spleens from NZB mice younger than 3 months. The prevalence of chromosomal aberrat...

CTLA4 Gene Variants in Autoimmunity and Cancer: a Comparative Review

Gene association studies are less appealing in cancer compared to autoimmune diseases. Complexity, heterogeneity, variation in histological types, age at onset, short survival, and acute versus chronic conditions are cancer related factors which are different from an organ specific autoimmune disease, such as Grave’s disease, on which a large body of multicentre data is accumulated. For years t...

Role of miR-146a in Immune System and Autoimmunity

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small preserved non-coding RNA molecules that regulate gene expression post-transcriptionally by targeting the 3' UTR of mRNAs for translational repression or degradation. The rising evidence has established the significant role of miRNAs within the regulation of immune system and the prevention of autoimmunity. MiR-146a has obtained an importance as a modulator of differ...
